What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It breaks work into focused intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) called "pomodoros," separated by short breaks (5 minutes). After completing four pomodoros, you take a longer break (15–30 minutes). This rhythm helps maintain concentration, reduce mental fatigue, and improve productivity throughout the day.

How to use this timer

Click Start to begin a work session. When the timer reaches zero, an audio alert plays and the timer automatically switches to a break. After the break, the next work session begins. The session dots at the top show your progress toward a long break. You can customise all durations — work time, short break, long break, and the number of sessions before a long break.

Tips for effective Pomodoros

During a work session, focus on a single task and avoid distractions. If an interruption occurs, note it and return to your task. Use breaks to stretch, hydrate, or rest your eyes. The technique works best when you plan your tasks before starting and review your progress at the end of the day. This timer tracks your completed sessions and total focus time to help you stay accountable.
